Spring Dinner in the Strawberry Field

Keep checking in with us for the date. We had so much fun in October with the Orchard Dinner, we decided to  have those crazy gals from The Shedd Cafe come back and cater another dinner. Like we need a good excuse to eat strawberry shortcake. Big ripe Oregon strawberries full of sweetness!!!!!!!! See you in June.

March Madness

We have a different kind of madness at the farm, we are so ready to plant and work ground, and it just keeps raining everyday. We seem to always have lots of project under cover, but it sure would be nice to get the 2011 crops in the soil. Other parts of our great Country are having drought and when you see the farmland in Japan being covered with fallout, we remind ourselves to be grateful and appreciate our little corner of the world.

Brrrrrrrr Cold Nignts in the Orchard

The cold weather is always a concern when your orchard is in bud swelling stage. The peaches and apricot trees were getting started when our cold weather hit our community. We had all kinds of good information about how low of temperatures the trees could endure before there would be damage.
We tried heating the air with wood heat through the night. Thanks to all good friends who offered to help, who brought propane heaters, called with encouraging words, and to our staff who worked extra hours.
We worked really hard and tried everything.   It is really strange to think we had irrigated to create ice on each limb for protection. Whoever thought of this system many years ago was defiantly thinking outside of the box. Why would you put ice on something you were trying to keep from freezing? You will know next August which system provided the best cover for the tree crop.

Lee Farren comes to the farm

Lee Farren, freelance journalist just left our farm after interviewing Aart  and his famous meatball recipe.
It features yummy products from the farm(eggs, pork, beef, oatmeal) What a great treat to sample for a mid morning snack. The Traeger Cooker is too fun.

New Trees ordered

They have comfirmed our order! The new trees will be shipped soon. Many of our customers have suggested different varieties of peaches and we are not able to plant them all, but we are trying a few new ones. Also, we have read so much  about the "star" trees, we wanted to try them too. You have got to love the names (Allstar, Blazingstar,Blushingstar,Glowingstar,Redstar,Risingstar, and Starfire). How fun to have a new row of trees in the orchard this summer. As all of you know, it takes a few years to have fruit producing trees, so keep your fingers crossed they are good ones.
